Hemp Textiles vs. Petrochemical Synthetics: The Data They Suppress
The Synthetic Lie
Every time you wash a polyester garment, it releases an average of 700,000 microplastic fibers into the water supply. These fibers have been found in human blood, breast milk, and lung tissue.
Hemp: The Superior Fiber
Tensile Strength
Hemp fiber has a tensile strength of 550-900 MPa. For comparison, polyester sits at 400-600 MPa. Hemp is literally stronger.
UV Resistance
Hemp naturally blocks 95%+ of UV radiation. Polyester requires chemical UV treatments that degrade after washing.
Antimicrobial Properties
Hemp is naturally antimicrobial. Polyester requires silver nanoparticle treatments (which are toxic) to achieve the same effect.
Biodegradability
Hemp biodegrades in 90 days. Polyester takes 200+ years.
The Carbon Math
Producing 1 tonne of hemp fiber sequesters 1.63 tonnes of CO₂. Producing 1 tonne of polyester emits 5.5 tonnes of CO₂. That's a 7.13 tonne differential per tonne of fabric.
Follow the Money
The global synthetic fiber market is worth $80 billion. The companies profiting from polyester are the same petrochemical conglomerates that lobbied to criminalize hemp in 1937.
